I entered this world on the Fifth of April 2007 in Warwick, NY, a quaint little town located 55 miles northwest of New York City. There are no skyscrapers in this part of New York. Warwick is known for its distinctly rural character with rolling hills and farmlands dotted with red barns and gracious old farmhouses. I love Warwick more than any other place, although I have really not seen any other town.My birth had it's share of drama... It was April 4, 2007 2:00 PM, just 24 hours since my Thatha and Paati had flown all the way from Chennai, India. I knew they'd be happy to see me after their long trip, so I decided to come out and see them. My Daddy
was away in New York City on work. I gave a slight nudge to my Mommy. Mommy called the hospital and the doctor asked her to stay calm and wait a little longer. That's when I told myself, "This is not going to be easy". Though Mommy knew it was going to be a while, I thought she was nervous that there was no one to drive us to the hospital. She called my Daddy and asked him to come home immediately. My Daddy asked her to call back in an hour if I was really ready to come out. I was not happy about that, so I gave mommy another nudge at around 3:00 PM. This time Mommy called Daddy again and I don't know what happened in that call, Daddy was on his way home in a NYC cab. I was glad I did that. Though Daddy was coming home, there was no one to take us to the hospital. I could sense the tension outside. That's when
Mommy's friends, Aarthi and Siva, had stopped by our house. They took us to the hospital and the doctor still maintained I was not ready to come out. I did not know what to do then. By the time Daddy came home, we had come back from the hospital. We thanked Aarthi and Siva for their help and sent them off. They were all saying that Mommy was probably too nervous and had to stay put for a while. As my due date was set on April 23rd, no one realized I was ready to come out, except my Mommy, who was not really sure what was happening.
The mood started to get a little lighter as time passed by. Daddy called my recently married Chithappa-Chithi, to
tell them the story just before dinner. They had a good laugh and asked us to keep them posted. After dinner, I decided I was not waiting any longer and started my journey to see this world. I didn't know I was going to hurt my poor Mommy while I came out. She was in pain about every 3 minutes. Mommy and Daddy realized this time that something was certainly up and I might in fact come out soon, though they seemed a little uncertain! At about 4 AM the following day, they took me to the hospital again. Thaatha and Paati stayed home.
St. Anthony's Community Hospital is a small but well equipped
hospital just a mile away from our home in Warwick. It seemed like just the right place for me to come out and see this world. This time, the nurse seemed to be convinced I was ready to come out. Daddy called home to tell Thatha Paati that we are going to stay in the hospital. Mommy and Daddy, still not 100%, asked the nurse if I am really coming out. The answer was "Yes". Yehhhh, now everything seemed to be well on its way. Later on, Thatha-Paati joined us in the hospital to welcome me into this world. Without their support, my Mommy and Daddy would have been clueless.
By around 6 AM in the morning, Nurse Janice came to take care of us. She was another god sent on these eventful two days. My Mommy liked her very much
. She helped her through the pain as I made my way out. I felt Mommy was exhausted already. Nurse Janice recommended something for mommy to help relieve the pain and a doctor came and injected some medicines. This definitely helped ease mommy's pain and I decided to put an end to all of this. That's when Dr. Levine came to help us out. At exactly 11:11 AM, I made a brave entrance into a wonderful new world. Paati and Daddy were with Mommy and I in the room and were elated about the new addition to their family. Mommy started crying when she saw me first; she was probably not able to express her happiness in words, so she decided to do it with her tears. Thatha very soon joined us all in the celebrations. Everyone was happy and joyful to see and hold me.
I seemed to have gotten my own identity by then; I got my own nurse,
Nurse Linda. She was wonderful and helped me prepare for this new world. I weighed 5 lbs 8.9 oz. and 18 3/4 inches. Everyone said I was tiny. The nurses liked my eyelashes. Daddy seemed to be busy taping all the happenings in a camcorder. I hope to see that some day; Perhaps, I'll understand nothing is easy in this world then, but for now I just want to eat and sleep. I was happy to be that way then and am still happy with the same routine with some play time. I have to say New York's weather is a little colder than Mommy's tummy. Nurse Linda had to wrap me up in a blanket and put me in a warmer. After some time, mommy fed me for the first time.

Daddy started calling all our friends and relatives to announce my arrival. My other Thatha- Paati were equally elated to hear my arrival. It is also the birth place of Sri Andal, after whom I am named as 'Sridhanvi'.

We stayed in the hospital for two nights and left home on April 7Th. I was dressed in a pretty pink suit and daddy took lots of pictures. My Mommy seemed very happy and relieved that everything was done. I want to say a big "Thank You" to Mommy for carrying me for 9 1/2 months and bringing me into this world.
